Stake AAVE, aTokens (USDC, USDT, WETH), and GHO in Aave's upgraded Safety Module. Earn dual yield streams — underlying aToken yield + dynamic Safety Incentives — while helping secure the protocol with automated slashing protection. $377M+ currently staked.
Choose from AAVE, aTokens, or GHO — each with unique yield structures and risk profiles.
Dynamic rewards adjust based on total staked amounts relative to target liquidity levels.

About Aave Staking, Umbrella, and earning yields
Umbrella is Aave's upgraded Safety Module that automates bad debt coverage through smart contract logic. It replaces the legacy Safety Module with a more capital-efficient, automated system that responds directly to onchain deficit data.
You can stake AAVE (receiving stkAAVE), aTokens (aUSDC, aUSDT, aWETH), and GHO (Aave's native stablecoin). Each asset type has different yield structures and risk profiles.
Current yields: AAVE staking ~3.78% APR, aUSDC ~11% APY, aUSDT ~10.9% APY, aWETH ~6% APY, GHO ~5.5% APY. Yields are dynamic and adjust based on staking levels.
When you stake aTokens, you earn dual yield: the underlying aToken supply APY continues accruing automatically, plus additional Safety Incentives that compensate for slashing risk. Rewards can be paid in AAVE, GHO, or USDC.
stkAAVE (staked AAVE) is the token you receive when staking AAVE in the Safety Module. It represents your stake, accrues rewards continuously, and retains governance voting power in Aave proposals.
Unstaking requires a 20-day cooldown period followed by a 48-hour withdrawal window. During cooldown, assets remain at risk but continue earning rewards.
In return for earning rewards, stakers accept the possibility of slashing if a deficit occurs on the specific asset they have staked. Risk is isolated to specific asset-network pairs. The legacy Safety Module has never executed a slashing event.
Deficit offsets provide first-loss protection. For example, USDT staking has a 100,000 USDT offset — the Aave DAO covers the first $100K of bad debt before any staker assets are affected.
Safety Incentives can be claimed at any time while tokens are staked or after unstaking. For aTokens, underlying yield accrues automatically; Safety Incentives must be actively claimed through a blockchain transaction.
Umbrella is initially deployed on Ethereum supporting USDC, USDT, WETH, and GHO staking. Expansion to additional networks and assets is subject to governance approval.
Yes. GHO holders can stake their tokens in Umbrella to earn Safety Incentives. Unlike aTokens, GHO doesn't generate underlying yield, so rewards come directly from Safety Incentives.
Umbrella automates slashing and deficit coverage through smart contracts, eliminating governance delays. It also enables aToken staking and improved incentives design compared to the legacy stkAAVE/stkABPT system.
Connect your wallet, navigate to the Stake tab in the Aave interface, and click Claim. Confirm the transaction in your wallet to claim accumulated Safety Incentives.
Aave is one of the most battle-tested DeFi protocols. Umbrella has been audited by four independent firms. The protocol has never experienced a slashing event in its history. Standard smart contract risks apply.
The current AAVE staking APR is approximately 3.78%. The target APR is 2.75%, with dynamic adjustments based on staking levels.
Yes. Staked AAVE tokens retain their voting power in governance proposals, allowing stakers to participate in protocol decisions while earning rewards.
If a deficit occurs, Umbrella automatically burns corresponding staked aTokens to offset the bad debt. Stakers accept this risk in exchange for earning rewards.
Currently, Umbrella is deployed on Ethereum. Expansion to other networks (Arbitrum, Polygon, etc.) is subject to governance approval.
Supply assets (USDC, USDT, WETH) to Aave to receive aTokens. The Umbrella interface can handle automatic conversion from standard tokens to aTokens.
Over $377 million is currently staked in the Safety Module, with total daily emissions of 300 AAVE.
No. Unstaking requires a 20-day cooldown period followed by a 48-hour withdrawal window. This mechanism ensures protocol stability.
Safety Incentives can be paid in various tokens including AAVE, GHO, or USDC, depending on governance configuration. Each staked asset can earn up to eight different reward token types simultaneously.
Emissions are determined by Aave Governance. The system uses a dynamic rewards model that adjusts rates based on total staked amounts relative to target liquidity levels.
There is no formal minimum, but you'll need to account for gas fees. For practical purposes, staking at least 0.01 AAVE or equivalent is recommended.
Current stkAAVE and stkABPT holders can migrate to Umbrella through the Aave interface. The process involves unstaking from the legacy module and restaking in Umbrella.
